Is this American?

Post by clown123 »

I'm totally confused by the marks on this pill box. IS it American? Is the "D" a date letter? The large lettering at a right angle to the marks reads STERLING 925. I have no clue about the maker.

Many thanks,

Cliff

Hi Cliff,

Well it might be, the marks are London import ones for 1978. The "maker's" mark would be the mark of the importer only. It's more accurate these days to refer to them as sponsers marks.

You can find some discussion about the exact same marks here. I think that puts your piece about 1978.

Thanks all! 1978 it is. I strongly suspect an American manufacturer from the STERLING925 stamp.
