unknown maker/purity

hello. this item only has these two hallmarks. this also has black tarnish like silver would. appears to be quite old, possibly two small sedtions of ivory on the handle. thanks for the help.

Hi,

These two marks are not Hallmaks, but the Crest, taken from a Coat-of-Arms, and the initials of, probably, the original owner of the piece.

Try cleaning the whole item up, and then see if you can find any other marks on it.

thank you for the info. i will continue to clean this up and look for additional markings. sorry about the deleted pics from my earlier post. they hallmarks on the deleted item was identified by a fellow member as 800/1000 and assayed in Torino, italy. thank you so much for the help. quite the knowledge base here.

hello again and thank you for the info. is it possible to be silver with no hallmarks? when i get home from work i will inspect this tea pot closer, but so far the only two markings that i could see were the ones pictured above. before i started cleaning this, it was almost completely tarnished black. silver oxidizes black correct?

Hi,

Yes, It's quite possible for silver not to be marked in any way, but usually you would expect, at least, to find a maker's mark.

Silver that has a very heavy coating of tarnish will appear black.

yes, this has a really heavy tarnish which could possibly indicate the age, ?. i will take some more pics and post them here in an hour or so. i will try to clean this tea pot prior to the pics.
