Help please. French marks? on goblet.

Post by Tripoli&Rouge »

I would be very greatful if someone could help me identify the marks around the foot of this little 12cm high goblet. Could the crowned 'C' be a French date letter for 1719?

Hi,

I guess that your goblet is Norwegian.

The crowned letter "C" seems to be the town mark of Christiania (today Oslo).

P över 87 indicates that it was assayed 1787 by the assay master (guardein) Peter Petersen active in the period 1782 - 1799.

The third mark the astrological sign of Gemini (The Twins) 22 May - 21 June

PP is the maker's mark, I am not sure but could this be the assay master himself, Peter Petersen.

Hope this helps.

I can confirm that the maker's mark is indeed that of Peter Peterson (ca. 1750-1808), citizen 1775, guardian 1782-1799.
