german birth cup - 1706, request for help to identify maker

Post by suomoo »

Hello,

I'm new on this forum and I would like to say hello to everyone on this site.
I'm interested in antique silver and collect it. Sometimes I come accross an item which turns out to be a bit of a puzzle.

I have a small solid silver antique cup with date of 1706 (birth cup, likely German) but I cannot find its hallmarks. I have searched in all my books but ..not an exact match. Could anyone help me identyfing the town and maker of the cup ? Many thanks in advance

Sorry Gevatterin = godmother
it is from godmother to godson

Hello Suomoo

For your cup the following information:

The name really means "Schlapperiz" in today's spelling Schlapperizi. This family are citizens of St. Gallen. They had previously owned in Lindau.

The maker's mark "AIR" is probably the Lindauer goldsmith "Rüel. It was about 1645 in Lindau master.
The goldsmiths Rad (Ulrich 1480 to 1526, and Christopher I mentioned from 1628 to 1697) do not both come to the question.

Gruss
