Post by R ingo »

Hello,

ist there someone, who knows, for what these spoons with the curious style are made for. I thought about grapefruit spoons but I am not sure.

Kind regards,
Ringo

Hi Ringo,
A very similar spoon form in Dutch silver is discussed in this post ->

Hello Tom,
thank You for the advice. I never thought, that it is so difficult to find out, for what such spoons are made. I think, like blakstone, that the spoons are citrus spoons. I have no better idea.
Indeed Janjaap Luijt has right, when he wrote, that the spoons are possibly not robust enough for this use. But I tried to eat a grapefruit with these spoons and it is possible, but I had to be careful.

Kind regards,
Ringo

Remember a properly prepaired grapefruit would be served after a knife had been passed around the fruit between the flesh and the peel, then most good cooks would cut between the sections so little effort would be needed to lift individual sections from the rind. Sort of like serving supremes of fruit arranged in a natural cup. Only in more modern times came the idea of diners digging and prying the sections out for themselves.
