A.E. Noe Coin Silver Serving Spoon

Post by silvercrown »

I have a coin silver 8 1/2" serving spoon that is marked A.E. Noe. Coin silver is not my forte and I can find nothing on this maker. Does anyone recognize the mark? Also, even if the maker cannot be identified, can you provide some help stylistically with dating this piece? Thanks!

Hi,
Kovels lists an Alpheus Noe, working in Philadelphia ca.1850. No illustration of the mark, but Noe is not a common name, nor is "A" a common American first initial, so I believe it is a plausible match.
Regards, Tom

Nothing particularly significant here so far as I know, but Alpheus E Noe was born in Raway, New Jersey in about 1822. In 1860 he was at the U S Mint in Philadelphia.
