Birmingham hallmark?

Post by willwilliams »

Hello,
I am happy to find this site.

I inherited a formal 8 piece set from my father several years ago. I have taken pictures of one fork.

I have reviewed the Hallmarks for the anchor and I believe it to be from Birmingham.

All the 925 Sterling marks have the lion facing R to L, mine is L to R. I can't find one oriented this way anywhere. Does this matter?

Finally, I can't determine the initial stamps. It looks like an "h" and a "G".

Does it look like that to anyone else?

Thank you so much for any information you might be able to provide.

The marks you are showing appear to be Gorham marks (American). if you go to Home page on this site, Gorham is listed, although I expect another viewer will be able to provide further information

I looked through the replacements.com site and found what I believe to be the pattern, 1933 Gorham Plain Sterling.

Here is another photo of the front of the fork:

Pattern is Dolly Madison, introduced in 1929.
