"CRAB" Hallmark ~ HELP!!!!
I recently purchased a pocket watch, which I believe is Silver. On the hinged lids is an impression of a crab. It looks like a "Blue Crab.", for indentification purposes. The mark is impressed into the silver. If anyone can help me identifying this mark, it would be deeply appreciated.

My camera doesn't pick the image up so I have made a drawing, as close to the image as possible. Along with the "CRAB" there are the number 3941 and a diamond with the letters J R. Thanks for your response.

Check this web site
I found this site that has some info about the French Crab.
http://www.wineantique.com/DEFINITIONS/ ... french.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If I read it correctly, the crab means 80% french silver.

There is a far more complete chart of French marks on this site ->
French Hallmarks
A crab mark does not mean it is French silver, unless the mark matches identically.
