There is a D (David) E Brown listed in Alton, Illinois in 1860 as a jeweler. He was in Illinois from at least the 1840's. In 1870 he is listed as a farmer, but it is possible that he kept up his jewelry business along with farming.

They appear to be in a style that was popular in the midwest. It is fair to assume that these spoons were manufactured somewhere other than in Alton, Illinois and then ordered and retailed there by D E Brown.

Are these family heirlooms or just a pleasant find?
