Tea spoon stamped Savannah, Ga

Any info on possible authors/history of this spoon? No markings other than Savannah Ga

With what looks like the remnant of a drop and a city mark as you mention, I'd say that spoon is coin silver from maybe about the first quarter of the nineteenth century. It must have been part of the set and some or all other the other pieces had a maker's mark. Some one else may have a piece that has the full marks and will notice this post. But then even that is no guarantee of the correct maker. Town marks and such do get shared by everyone that comes through a particular shop and punches get sold off too.

A name or initial mark is important and definitely desirable, but for myself where American silver is concerned style, uniqueness and condition are becoming more and more satisfying in their own right even with out a known maker.

For me a spoon like yours is a keeper and would be added to the list of interesting but not fully explained pieces. At least for now anyway. Because who knows maybe the next reply will answer all your questions.

Thanks. I see what you mean in the photo, but it's a trick of the light. That part of the handle where it looks like a remnant of a mark is actually thicker than the handle where the Savannah stamp is. In person, up close there is really nothing to indicate that there were any other marks.
