Help Decoding Flatware Marks

Post by cooljjay »

I pulled out a whole bunch of what I think is English sterling flatware but I am confused all the lion marks I see are facing the opposite direction then the lion mark for sterling. I gave up identifying the marker or date of the pieces, my eyes are starting to hurt. Figure I would ask here before I toss them back into the drawer. Here are some photos, any help would be nice. I believe they are all the same marker but possible different years as they are all monogrammed the same.

Hi cooljjay,

Picture 1. J. van der Broek in Amsterdam ???? , Year letter S=1852
Minerva head probably with the letter A is the assay office in Amsterdam.

Picture 2. Gerritsen en Van Kempen NV, in Zeist (The Netherlands). The mark was probably between 1924-1961.

Minerva head with the letter B is the assay office in Utrecht.

Lion 2 and that is 833/1000 pure silver

Year letter P ? = 1950

Picture 3. Gerritsen en Van Kempen NV, in Zeist (The Netherlands).

Minerva head with the letter B is the assay office in Utrecht.

Lion 2 and that is 833/1000 pure silver

Year letter crowned N 1948 (special year letter commemorating the coronation of Queen Juliana)

Picture 4. Gerritsen en Van Kempen NV, in Zeist (The Netherlands).

Minerva head with the letter B is the assay office in Utrecht.

Lion 2 and that is 833/1000 pure silver

I am unable to decipher the year letter.

I hope that someone will be able to confirm J. van der Broek.

Hope this helps,
