Swedish spoon

Post by Zouavetank »

This spoon has been in my family since it was made. It has been passed from oldest son to oldest son (with the exception of my grandmother and my mother, only girls). It was seen on Antiques Road Show in Portland, Oregon USA by a silver "expert." He told my mother that it was made in the late 1600's to very early 1700's based on it's design and construction. My grand mother had early onset Alzheimer's disease and disposed of anything that she could not remember (which was everything) including the family Bible from Sweden that had our family's history. Maybe finding more information on this old spoon can help us find out more about who we are and where we are from. Any help on determining when, where, and by whom this spoon was made would help greatly.
Thank you in advance,
Brian

Your spoon is Swedish. I3 means that it was made in 1815 so it is not as old as you expected. http://www.925-1000.com/Fsweden_Date_Code.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Maker is Anders Petter Ekedahl - the l is not visibel at your spool it has been worn off.
Ekedehl was master 1808 to 1823 in Eksjö he was born 1780 and became master October 24th 1808. and he died October 26th 1823.

When you come to Nässjö go to the church and see a "kalk"(is it cup in english?) made 1810 and he also made liquercups 1810 and a spoon 1813 - these are the registred work of him.
Look for that location - it might be nice if you find family.

by the way D=Daughter ie daughter of a man with name beginning with P
and S = son ie son of a man whoes name started with J
LKPD and JJS recieved this spoon at their marrige - most likely in the year it was made.
Or they could have it later if marrige does not correspond, but most likely it was new when given at their wedding.

CD looks (to me) as a non-swedish engraving. In my mind that is american. But who nows (for sure)

Thank you so very much, you have answered questions that we have had for years. My mother almost cried when I read your posts to her. This information my be the key in finding our family in Sweden. The CD on the spoon was put there by my great grandfather (Carl) for him and his daughter (Dorthy), because he thought that the other letters were all individuals. Again thank you,
Brian
