Without dimensions: it appears to be a sugar bowl.

Actually it is a large piece, measuring 14.75" from tip of handle to other side, 6" tapering to 5" tall and 6.25" wide.

at that size it would be a compote, used as a centerpiece to hold fruit or flowers.
