Masonic Sterling spoons and knives woith pastel enameling

Post by roundear »

Hi there

I've inherited some spoons and knives, please see here:

http://flickr.com/photos/soapy-j/93312677/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The hallmark appears as:

T&S [anchor] [Lion] [G]

Which appears to indicate that they were made in Birmingham in 1779, possible by Toye and Spencer (This is is the only T&s maker I can find).

I think they may be masonic in origin, as my family has a masonic history.

I am interested in ANY information someone on this list may be able to give! They are very beautiful and severely intriguing!

Thanks

They're quite lovely enamelled pieces, unusual to see the fruit knives, not sure where the Masonic connection would be. Please post some closeups of the marks, believe they more likely date from somewhere in the late 19th century to well into the 20th.

Unfortunatly(well actually it uis fortunate)I'm just leaving the country for 4 weeks and don't have a means to take closeups with my camera-we tried-so will have to use a frineds but it won't be untill we return.We presumed the Masonic link by finding an article on Toye + Spencer creating Masonic goods,also my family were big in the Masons however this may just be us going up a blind alley!
From our small rsearch it is unusual to have the fruit knives and not forks.
They are indeed very beautiful and I'm really desparate to find out something about them!
thanks John
