Pair of Salts - c1778 Help w/ Mark

Post by pauline5555 »

Just acquired a beautiful pair of salts with matte glass liners. I like to do a bit of research when I get something. Would love some feedback on what I have found and any other info.

I believe the set is c1778 London made possibly by Thomas Daniel.
Thanks much,
Pauline

Hi Pauline
What an unusual and attractive pair of salts, are the feet ball and claw (Chippendale style), to me the salts are very much in the style of Adam.
Yes l agree Thomas Daniel 1778, he made several marks, from his first address 10 Carey Lane London.
Regards
Nigel

Hi-
Thanks for the confirmation. They are ball and claw feet and I have a pair which is great. (admin edit - see Posting Requirements)
What is your opinion on the glass inserts. They are frosted glass on the outside to make it slightly opaque and clear inside. They fit perfectly. Do the inserts to you look like they are original?
Thanks for your help,
Pauline

Pauline

To be honest it is very difficult to confirm or deny looking at photos, as l said these salts are unusual, every liner l have seen has been always blue, (saying that l am talking about the cauldron shape salts) maybe some one else on here has a wider experience of liners
