I know Charles Stieff married Laura Numsen, but was their a sterling company named Numsen? I can't find any history on the company.

Just doing some googling, I see where there were Numsen Dining Rooms in Cleveland, Ohio around the third quarter of the nineteenth century.
If you have Numsen silver pieces, do they resemble hotelware or something fancy but nevertheless institutional? I don't expect silver of this type to be sterling, but it might be plated to resemble sterling.
This is only a guess. Naturally, a picture with any marks, would be a big help.

if you haven't already done so.
