German pipe after 1 Jan. 1888; whole seller: Wilhelm Müller

Post by silverport »

Hello Alex

Welcome to our forums.

I liked to make my siesta — but now this would be a reason for put of:

Who the maker was I couldn’t say yet — because the maker’s mark is on her left part struck over by whole sellers mark »XX«.

That mark was trade mark of Wilhelm Müller (founded 1847) in Berlin, Germany with dependency in Pforzheim, Germany.

Please look here for some more details: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18361" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have a nice summertime!

Kind regards silverport

As mentioned the original maker I couldn’t find out yet

Hello Alex

Until yet I couldn’t find out the original producer; sorry.

Image

Here you could see the 1905 printed XX mark

XX was founded in 1847.

Their address in that time in Berlin was: Wilhelm Müller, Berlin C 19, Gertraudtenstrasse 10-12
Fernsprecher (telephone): Amt I (central switch I), Nr. 1625 + 1664
Telegramm-Adresse für Berlin (telegram address for Berlin): Goldmüller, Berlin

XX has signed many of the by them distributed items with a letter-code: 2 minuscule script letters

This kind of internal indication by use of 26 letters, combined with 26 letters, is 676 different outside supplier.

Until yet I haven’t got knowledge, if and where a copy of this internal code exist — because
XX don’t exist any more.

Kind regards silverport

Thank you for all your help, I really appreciate the time and research! I looked through Kovels and books of maker marks without luck. In fact the pipe books I own there are only 3 solid silver figural pipes so they are very rare and unusual to learn about. Thanks again for the help! Take care all

Best Regards,

Alex

Hello, Wilhelm Müller still exists in Schwäbisch-Gmünd. Check the internet for the homepage of wilhelmmueller.de. Their premises in Berlin were destroyed during the war and most of their archive was lost. Still - you might want to try your luck with them. Best wishes, Bahner
