Carl Frey & Sohne

Post by David Bowen »

I have a spoon marked by this maker. Can anyone tell me anything about the firm, please? The spoon is also marked with a Crescent, 800 and a Crown (indicating Germany) and an Eagle. What does the last mean? The spoon is vaguely Tiffany in design.

Hello, the eagle is the maker's mark: Bruckmann from Heilbronn, Germany. see-> German Hallmarks
Carl Frey und Soehne ('and sons') was the retailer. Founded originally in 1800 by Carl Frey in the city of Freiburg, Schlesien (Silesia, now Poland). In 1862 his sons established another shop in Breslau (Wrozlaw) and used the mark 'Carl Frey and sons'. Active in Silesia until 1945. Best wishes, Bahner
