Help with french cutlery

Post by rat-tail »

Hi I wonder if anyone could help identify the maker and period of this French spoon and fork I bought recently. I think from my limited knowledge of French marks its first grade from the early 19th century. And the maker is JG. Who might JG be, and any thoughts about this most unusual engraving and pattern would be appreciated - it's what attracted me to the pieces. - regards Frank

Hello.

I think that would be Jean Granvigne, check here:
http://www.925-1000.com/Ffrench_makers_J.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Jean Granvigne succeeded Cordonnier & Granvignein 1868.
Succeeded by Granvigne Freres around 1889, and after 1900 L. Granvige
who continued to use similar marks.

Pat.
