800 german matchsafe - markers mark unidentified

Post by Christian »

Hello,
another matchsafe of my collection- maybe someone can help me to identify this markers mark.
The mark is on a matchbook case used from 1900 till now.

XX = Wilhelm Müller, wholesaler, Berlin

Hello Christian

The m a k e r ‘s mark in this case isn’t the real maker’s mark; but it’s the mark of Wilhelm Müller, an important wholesaler, 1847 founded in Berlin — still existing.

Let’s start (from top left to right):

Crown (looking inside), Crescent (here horizontally); XX (= WM, stacked), bß (WM internal maker’s code); 800 (from top).

The maker itself could only be identified by incidence — by the bomb raids on Berlin and Pforzheim are lost much documentation.

Kind regards silverport
