Additional Info required on Dutch Spoon with Guild Marks

Post by dartsil »

I wonder if anyone can assist a little with the Dutch marks on this spoon, The spoon was imported into England by Boaz Moses Landeck and carries import marks for Chester 1913, However it also carries Guild marks which I thought were done away with around 1810?...Is it possible the spoon is a lot older than the Chester 1913 mark?.

Also at centre of stem in has PVDVV and beneath this what appears to a letter L or a letter R, Can anyone tell me what these marks are especially the significance of the PVDVV.

I look forward to hearing a little more about this spoon which measures 206mm in length.

The silversmith is PvdW* which is the hallmark for P van der Woude who worked in Sneek in The Netherlands from 1898 until 1917, this information i have just received so it is now confirmed the spoon is not manys years older than the English mark.

Hi,

Just for the record: PvdW* for Pier van der Woude and also for widow Pier van der Woude. Also known as Firma P. van der Woude, city of Sneek. Year used 1898 / 1925. The unknown marks are pseudo marks. One pretending to be province control mark, the Dutch Lion Rampant, the other a pseudo city mark

Regards,

Oel
