Reynolds Angels

Post by dwaiken »

I was recently given this piece which had made its way to an antique shop in New Orleans. I am told it is from London, but I have been through the silver marks listed in this forum and I cannot place it as to place of manufacture or date. Any help would be appreciated. I have found this design on other pieces and am told it is called "Reynold's Angels". These are JPG images. Thanks, D. Aiken, New Orleans

You presumably know this is not solid / sterling silver, but EPNS = Electro-Plated Nickel Silver. The date would be before circa 1896 when the use of the crown mark was officially discouraged as being too easily confused with the Sheffield town mark on sterling piece.

Is the maker's mark "S&C" ???

Hi,

The mark is likely that of Spurrier & Co. (Albert Elwell Spurrier), who in 1885 had showrooms at 35, Colman Street, London and works at 14, George Street, Birmingham.

There is very likely a connection between this firm and the large Birmingham silverplate manufacturer, William Spurrier.
