Could use some help. Marks are on a knife blade, think it is provincial, numbers in middle mark are 81.
Thanks, Jas

Hi,
Are you sure it is 81, perhaps 31?

Yes, I'm sure it is an 8, it is much smaller than the 1 and has a dot underneath it. What do these numbers mean?
Re: french 1819-38 maker
Hi,
The top mark is the provincial mark for the 2nd Standard silver. The middle mark, I believe, is the provincial large excise mark for silver. The '81' should indicate the assay office in question to which my reference states was used at the Vienne Department, Poitiers Bureaux. The third mark is the maker's mark.
Hopefully someone better qualified in the reading of French marks will confirm/deny the above.

Kind regards silverport
