Hello
I found this bowl in a box full of things I had discarded years ago . I thought is was plated...
It has a lovely, very fine chiseled floral design
The hallmark is 830S with a lion
There is also a very tiny mark, with an S and something underneath.
Can you please help me identify where it comes from?
And the period? The egyptian flower design would point to end of the XIXth cebtury, but it could well be from the 1920's.
Thanks in advance for your help.
François

Certainly looks to be a Norwegian art deco piece, once had a very similar form by David-Andersen, though the engraved decoration was not nearly as nice as the lotus motif on this. Can't find the maker's mark, but I'm adding it to the Norwegian page with a "looking for info" note.
The little mark is likely an import mark from another country, had trouble reading it, but a little enhancing shows it is a horse's head, fullface view with a #5 below. Does not seem to be included in Tardy's analytical index.
Regards, Tom

Waow !! Impressive ! I hadn't seen the horse's head ! Thanks !!!
And thank you for adding the maker's mark to the "looking for info".
So, does this means the lion rampant is the maker's mark ?
And once we know who he was, we can date the bowl ; I agree that it is Art Deco in style, as a Victorian object would be more fussy.
Best regards
François
