I bought a brooch/locket at a rummage sale and cant find anywhere what the marks. aIt says HECHO EN MEXICO(circular) JGG(middle of circle) D925(under JGG) U R or F (completes the circle) the top of it is made of some kind of stone I tested it for bakelite and its not.
Hecho en Mexico means Made in Mexico. JGG is the artisan, listed in the hallmark book but the name is unknown, I've seen the mark on a lot of tourist pieces like this. DF is for Distrito Federal aka Mexico City. The 0925 is for the silver content. These masks are most often made of glass.
Yeah I knew about where it was made. didnt know about the DF thanks. The JGG you have seen it? where, I never have.
I dont know if it could be glass because the mouth is a different color and so is the inside of the locket, the back of the face, has color lines going through it like stone would have, they arent cracks. When I saw this I grabbed it fast cause it was so unusual. For a dollar it was good! The only other thing is that to me i would have thought i to be some kind of New Orleanstype voodoo face not mexican..go figure!
Thanks
I can't see the stone very well but check Mahogany Obsidian. The masks are also done in Obsidian, which is a volcanic glass, although I usually only see them in black or sheen obsidian.
Yes it looks like it could be that indeed...Thank you so much for your help!
Now if I could only figure out when my ring was made I posted it and no one seems to know. I believe the center stone is glass...but Im sure the was its made that it would surely tell the age.
Oh I meant a ring that I posted at the same time with this pin but under 'silver jewelry-single image: help id my ring'
You think the pin is from the 40's...cool
