1908 Tray

Post by fripou »

Hello

I have a very nice tray made for exportation (the key in the lion mark) in 1908 (date letter gothic y ) by J.M. van Kempen & sons (VK , a crescent moon and 2 dots) and assayed in 's Gravenhage (C in the helmet)

Can you tell me what this design is called ?

The reason for the post is that the tray is badely scrathed : it is a hundred years old, and it shows !

How can I try and polish it ? I heard about toothpaste ? Is that something you would try ?

Any better ideas ?

I may perhaps end up going to a silversmith and have it professionnally polished...

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Francois,

I don't know the name of the design, but you could ask them.
Their data can be found at http://www.royalvkb.com/sitemap/index.asp?page=6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Concerning the polishing, from what I read you are not a silversmith, so best not to try it yourself as you would probably ruin the flat surface.
Toothpaste won't help you here.

Best to let a professional do it.
