Taxco Sterling Coil Necklace

Post by Rose Lacy »

I found this in one of the drawers of my late MIL's sewing machine cabinet. Its so tarnished I didn't realize it was silver until I saw the stamp. I'd like to learn more about this piece, especially it's approximate age. I've spent a couple of hours searching online and haven't found another Taxco piece like this.

I have seen modern pieces called Egyptian coil necklaces in this style but they aren't soldered as this one is. My spouse thinks her mother probably had this for at least 30 years.

Thanks in advance for any info you might have!

With no eagle mark it is possibly pre-1948 although I have seen this design done newer too. Usually older pieces say Silver rather than Sterling.
My father did a piece in this design in the 1950's while at the VA hospital so it's not always Mexican, rare to find one that is marked.
