Over Stamp ?

l have posted this hallmark as l find it unusual, in the sense that the Duty Mark and the Lion seemed to of been overstamped, the T seems very deep and l am not sure where this spoon was assayed, the makers mark also appears to of been overstamped, any ideas or thoughts would be interesting, l have hopefully shown what l mean on the photo.

Hi Nigel,

I make that George Turner of Exeter, 1815.

Miles wrote an excellent article on the Exeter Lion Passant marks: http://www.925-1000.com/a_exeterlions.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like the stamper had the shakes that day!

Regards Trev.
