Unmarked small bowl vase

Post by Slipstream »

I recently received this small vase from a family member, however, there are no hallmarks, or maker marks on it.
I do not even know if it actually silver or not.It seems pretty heavy for its size, but I do not have scale that will weigh something this small.
The complete height is approx 6 inches, and width at middle of the bowl about 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall, and the neck is 3 inches tall and 2/3 an inch wide at the bottom, and 4/5an inch at the top. The ring around the bottom is 1/4 inch tall and 1.5 wide.

It has 6 leaf shaped dark brown colored markings around the main bowl itself, with three similar marking on the neck, and decorative lines on it around the base and top of the neck. These markings (hard to see detail in pictures I took) look like they may be some sort of flower, maybe a rose with leaves coming up below the flow flower head. Under these markings, it looks to be a shiny silver color, but I do not want risk trying to rub the color off to check for sure. The lower half of the bowl is faded into black from the silver color of the rest of the vase itself.
It has two separation lines on the main bowl where it was pressed together out of two halves and the lines run all the way up from the bottom of the bowl to the top of the neck..
Looking inside the opening on top, I can see some roughness and down through the neck, I can see some whitish substance, but it wont easily rub off if i run my finger over it. Also, the inside edge of the top of the neck, is not a smooth circle like it was machine made, but looks hand filed.
On the bottom of the vase is a thin metal ring that looks to be added as a separate piece during assembly.

ANY help identifying this Item would be greatly appreciated. This is my first try at posting this on here, so please bear with me, and feel free to ask for any more detail you may think might help ID this.
Thanks
P.S. There are a few more pictures I took that I have uploaded to photobucket if they might help, but these three are the best that I managed to get with my camera.

Your vase looks like it is possibly pewter with inlaid copper. Pewter would explain the weight.

I can't tell precisely from your photo's, but that object looks very similar in size, shape and design to one I had several years ago -- mine was made of frosted glass with a dull metallic appearance. The vertical seams may indicate it is molded and the thickness of the material may be another indication. Just a guess.
