Hi,
Another spoon that I could use some help with. An Apostle spoon 4 3/4" (12 cm) in length with a shallow bowl.
Besides what appears to be a very small sword mark on the front of the spoon, the only other mark is that of a goblet on the back of the bowl.
Any help appreciated.

Dutch Apostle Spoon
Re: Dutch Apostle Spoon
Hi dognose, very nice spoon. I have one quite similiar that has given me grief as well, although it is larger at 7 3/4inches. Your marks are different than what are on mine but the spoons are so close in design and type they might be related in some way. I had considered that mine was also Dutch due to style. But recently have been leaning toward German due to the Eagle. Your sword mark may have what I believe may be two possibilities. There is a sword which was the silver standard for the Netherlands but what appears closer is the Belgium silver standard 1831-1869. I have a picture of a flagon in Wylers which looks very close but is without specific attribution but may be French. There is a flagon used as a town mark for Issoudun, France after 1784. Don't know if this helped or hurt. Silverpac
Re: Dutch Apostle Spoon
Hi Dognose and Silverpac,
The spoon from Dognose has the old Dutch sword for small silver objects january 14 1814 - january 1 1906. The bokal is a pseudomark for a Dutch maker to make the spoon look like 17 or 16e century. A lot of these were made late 19e century.
The spoon from Silverpac has Dutch pseudomarks as well. MC is the pseudomark for a Dutch master found on brandybowls, spoons and teaservices in Groningen and Schoonhoven. See series bb "Valse Zilvermerken in Nederland" by K.A. Citroen. So the spoon from Silverpac is not French, but Dutch. A lot of these were mmade late 19e century as well.
Regards,
Zilverik
