To my knowledge the letters E P, in combination with other letters or symbols, to indicate electro plating were/are commonly used in the UK, USA and Canada but also in Germany like; B.E.P.W.F for Berliner Elektroplate Waren Fabrik.
I agree with ‘Hose’, the crown between EP (Gothic letter type) stands for electro plate and perhaps made in the USA.
Here is a list of clues. If you see one or more of these designations on your piece, it may very well be silver plate.
