1887 Baby Cup

Post by mountaintopjoy »

The Hallmark symbol on the baby cup looks exactly like Whiting, but the letter designation "H" seems to be one used by Gorham for 1875. The engraving on the side of the cup has a date of 1887. I don't know what the number 414 refers to. So did Whiting also use the same alphabetic symbols for dates? Or had Gorham already aquired Whiting by 1875?
Should the cup be called Whiting or Gorham?
Thanks,
Joy

If the trademark looks to be Whiting, then the piece would be by Whiting. Many companies used the alphabet to designate different things at different times.
