Antique cravat pin mark

Post by Dolly »

This cravat pin is standard size and has a genuine diamond ( tested) and seed pearls, I cannot identify this mark though, does it mean it is silver plated gilt thank you.

Hi Dolly,

Welcome to the Forum.

If you are certain that it is a genuine diamond, then I suspect the metal will be gold.

'SS' is likely to be a maker's mark, and '18' the gold standard. A reputable jeweller will test it for you.

thank you, yes the diamond is true, I tested it with a Mizar tester and always use a real one and a fake to set it.
Its also a great old cut, I cant imagine a diamond being set in silver and then plated either.
I will take your advice and ask a jeweller.
