Egyptian Date Marks
I really do second this question.
I have several small items of Egyptian silver dated post 1946. The purity and point of assay are reasonably clear but the date code is naturally in Arabic.
Unfortunately the Arabic alphabet doesn't run in sequence from A to Z and to the non-arabic speaker there are several possibilities of sequence for the likely twenty eight (28 not 26) characters normally available.
For example, 1946, the most common character shown in Tardy and Divis, etc.(which I realise could cover half of 1946 and half of 1947) is marked by a character referred to as a 'final' Nu:n equivalent to an N.
But this character is 25th in one common sequence and 22nd in another.
So which is the correct sequence?
The Al Khalil or another?

Egyptian Date Marks
Just as an addition I recently bought an Egyptian fruit bowl with similar marks to those aready shown. Mine can be seen at
These show it to be 900 parts per 1000, made in Alexandria and probably about 1950 - but the date letter could be a 'd' (da) or an 's' or a 'y' for all I know?
