Hello all
i have recently buyed 6 knives and 6 forks
and on all of them written Fred H Young Warranted 12 DWTS
Can any one explain that what it is and any information of this fred H Young??

Using the search feature in the upper right hand corner of this page will give you some pretty good explanations about dwt. Fred H Young was a jeweler in Maquoketa, Jackson, Iowa in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, so he's a possibility for the name on your pieces. Good luck with your research.

i havent understood it thats why i posted here that what does 12 DWTS means...
is it pure silver or only silver plate..it is confusing there because of other 11 and 18 dwts thats why please.......

i used also calculator from the link on that topic of silver and for 12 DWTS or Pennyweight it showed 18.6 g
does this means that 18.6 g of total fine silver is used for all 6 forks and 6 knives or each fork or each knife is with 18 g plated ???

I believe the industry standard is in dozens, so presumably in this case it would indicate 12 dwt spread over 12 pieces.

Sorry, yours question and basic calculations aren’t very clear.

There are the basics sufficiently explained.

Plated cutlery include ‘salt spoons’ of about 6 cm length to ‘soup ladle’ or ‘punch ladle’ of about 25 to 30 cm length.

‘DWTS’ is a sign of amount of Silver (.999 fineness) used for both sided galvanic processing of 12 items of cutlery.

‘Warranted 12 DWTS’ is 12 x 1.55517384 grams Silver of .999 fineness.

Around 18.66 gram is normally used for both sides of 12 table forks or table 12 spoons (soup spoons).

Knife hafts haven’t ever the same amount of surface as the related forks or spoons.
So on hafts surface is normally much less silver deposited.
