WMF candelabra not in catalogue 1906

Post by Viking1 »

Dear all,
Greetings to you all from me. I'm visiting this forum for the first time in search for your help. I've obtained a candelabra with hallmark WMF-B-I/O-AS and already know what these marks mean. The problem is that I can't find this beautiful piece in the 'Art Nouveau catalogue' of WMF 1906. Is seems to be genuine because of the clear marks. Can anyone help me to solve this mysterie please? :-) Could it be possible that this candlelabra has it's origin before 1906? I have some pictures to show on this forum but I don't know how to do this. Can someone help me with some advice in doing this please?
Regards,

This is a marks identification forum and I risk wandering away from the topic, but your candelabrum is the absolute height of the Art Nouveau movement, which would have occurred closer to the late 1890s - 1900. Try an earlier catalog.

For the benefit of those who are not aware of what the lettering in the marks indicates:

B = Britannia Metal
I/0 = Regular Silver Coating
a-s = Antique Silver Finish

This is not a candelabra, it's a "flower/fruit stand," that's missing it's glass inserts. See the 1906 catalog on pp. 72-85 for examples. I don't find it in the 1925/26 Musterbuch, either, so the suggestion that it's a very early piece is probably correct.

Hi you all,

I've just read your answers. I didn't follow anymore because there were no answers to my question for a very long time. Now, by accident, I found your reply's. I want to thank Dognose, Diana and Justin very much for their reaction on this subject. Yes, I'm now convinced that it's an early flower/fruit stand. I hope to find a catalog earlier than 1906 one day to verify. Thanks again.

Regards,
Marc

You and I won't be the only ones looking for an earlier catalog!

Good hunting to us both,
Diana
