Unidentified vinaigrette maker

Post by AllanMacDonald »

Not sure if the mark on the bottom is a hallmark or a monogram. There are no other hallmarks of any kind on this. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello,

I believe that piece is known as a 'hovedvandsæg', a vinaigrette that includes a compartment in the base for containing a coin for the church collection.

its a monogram
MD or ND - where D=datter/dotter both meaning Daughter. (Danish/Swedish)
Style is new-rococo and when you open the bottom you will surely find hallmark. Have you opened it?

Just checked again...no other marks anywhere on the outside or inside both compartments.
