I'm new to the site. I have an vintage Arabic script ring and I'm trying to date this. I have looked all over the web to try to de-cypher the hallmarks of this ring. I know the 875 means its 22k Gold. It weighs 3.7 grams. Any and all info will be appreciated. I'm no expert by far but I seem to think its old.
While researching this ring, I realized there are no arabic speakers near me to my knowledge (Florida panhandle)...so I used the power of the internet...I found a jewelery business in the UK, (Zahras Jewelery) that makes arabic style jewelry and e-mailed them...here is the reply;
Thank you for contacting us, the rings inscription reads:
"Lelaha Ela Allah Mohammedan (should be Moahmmedon) Rasoul Allah"
There is a small grammatical error as shown above. The meaning of this is a declaration that
"There is no God except Allah, and Mohammed is his messenger"
Hope this helps.
At first I thought it was funny that there was a grammatical error...who would do such a thing on purpose...??? Then I began to think maybe this gramatical error was the way this phrase/word was spelled many years ago....So I wait patiently...
