I would appreciate it if someone would explain the training timeline from novice to silversmith. Begin with how one gets selected for apprenticeship and then on through to the point where one becomes independent in his shop (or partnership.) I am especially curious about the point at which a trainee is deemed worthy enough to enter the guild and register his mark on the rolls. Thanks in advance. Kit

That was just the right article! Surprised to read that journeyman played
so little part in the training/experience process; had expected another
fixed period of indenture before earning freedom from the Hall.
