Crowned lepord /Looking to identifiy makers initials/date

Post by cynthia »

Hello, I am new to this .I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet . I have a set of 10 forks bearing 5 marks in order Lyon passant on its side with a pointed sheild bottom, Crowned Lepord , Capital N .( I can only find two capital N 's like the one the set bears),the sheild around mine has a rounded bottom with no point, the two date marks that I found on this site have pointed bottoms and not exactly like the one that is on the forks. I have The top of the sheild is the same as the other two. The next mark after the date is the head looking like George Washington( It looks like the second head mark for 1786-1821). The last are the makers mark TB and a mark next to the intials (>). All the marks are located near the top of the handle. The handle is rounded with a point on the end similar to haoverian rattail . It has a brightcut design of what I think is a griffin on the end of the fork. The family had something to do with the Duke of Argile. Thank you for your response !

If your marks look something like this, then your forks were made in 1808 in London by Thomas Barker. The head which looks like George Washington is George III.

I apologize if I misunderstood your descriptipon.
