Came across this recently, the marks have me stumped. The shovel blade is marked for import into Austria-Hungary before 1891, import into Vienna, Austria after c.1930 (guess it took a vacation elsewhere in between). It origins are a mystery though, the maker's mark is the W, the symbol below it is possibly a mailed or gauntleted fist, the mark on the opposite side of the shaft is 800 above 3 letters, possibly MIL. My feeling is that it has Belgian or Italian origins, does anyone have a clue?

Not much knowledge of them but perhaps German provinces....?

Many thanks for solving the mystery and sending me to Martine D’Haeseleer's excellent article. I've read a couple of her online articles, but had not come across this one.
