clarification needed

Post by shambles »

Hi new to all this, we have received a variety of items from a relative. And one has stumped us, I don't actually think its silver or plated but my other half does. I appologise to the poor pictures but its such a small delicate item that my camera refuses to take a decent picture of it. And tho I have attached a piture of a big blur, it was supposed to be the minimal marking it has on it. This is literally 4 letters, that we think are "FPNS" Having looked on the internet tho, we cannot find any reference to this for any metal. They do have a silver appearance, as the picture below shows, but we realise that doesn't mean it is. They desperately need a clean, but not knowing if they are silver or not means I cannot get them cleaned and fear ofd doing more damage than good before they go on display. Please if anyone can help with this, it would be most appreciated.

Thanks

What the letters are on the item probably are EPNS, which means electroplated nickel silver. Your item would be silverplated. Hope this helps.
