Hello,
In a grab bag of jewelry, I found a silver pendant today. The backing is the needle type that is held by a sliding circular clasp at the top.
I saw not 925 or "Sterling" wording on it. After some research, I do think I understand the three hallmarks.
I believe the first hallmark is the Irish hallmark for sterling. The second hallmark is well worn as well, but I think it is the hallmark for Dublin. Finally, the third hallmark is a C inside a square which I think is the letter date code for 1918.
Before the three hallmarks are the letter "I.S.J" with the dots between them. I cannot find this maker. Can anyone help on this? Also, I am hoping my dating is correct. Would there have been silver cross pendants in 1918 with the needle backing that fit into the groove at the top with the circular type clasp?
I would ul a picture but the hallmarks are very small and hard to photograph seeing the needle backing is in the way. Also, I am not sure I have a macro lens that could do it justice.

Hi,
If you cannot capture an image of the marks try drawing what you see and post an image of the drawing, and an image of both sides of the piece.

Okay, after finding a more updated letter date chart, I am now sure the pendant is 1988. This does make more sense to me with the type of backing it has.
This being said, still not sure who I.S.J is.

Hello
It may be just coincidence but an ISJ mark was registered in 1972 at the Edinburgh Assay Office by the Irish Souvenir and Jewellery Shop of Dublin.
The Dublin Assay Office should know who registered an ISJ mark there.
If you discover who the maker was please let us know.
Mike
