small cup marked 950 and unknown Makers mark

Post by espear »

I have a cup/bowl weighting 51 grams and measures 72 cm across and 31 cm high. The bowl has a Viking ship in the center with 6 flowers around the sides. The makers mark is a B above an M or my thoughts a cardinals hat (three sided). Any help with identifying the maker would help. My thoughts are this may be a copy of an old Viking bowl.
Thanks

Hi ~ welcome to the forums. The ship motif on your bowl would be Greek rather than Scandinavian - the decoration and the .950 fineness are typical, have seen the mark before, but do not know the maker...

There was lengthy discussion of this same conjoined B M mark in two earlier threads, which can be seen here:

As Cheryl has already written, the mark is certainly Greek, but the maker remains a mystery for now.

Thanks Cheryl and David.

I will work to get detail pictures of the symbols around the rim. It may help in solving this.
