silver marked G925 - need some help please

Post by ali5on001 »

Hi
Hopefully someone can help me out here.
I have bought, in the Netherlands, two silver tea caddy spoons. They are marked G925 (the G being in a four pointed diamond). Well, it looks like a G to me. No other marks. Would very much appreciate your views on these.

Thanks.

Please see previous post.

Here are my photos now.

Silver jockey cap, marked G925, please help with identifying country and year of make, and wondering why there are only 2 marks, and not 3 ??

Thanks for your help

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Not hallmarked according to the Dutch hallmark laws and/or system.
I believe it to be not a Dutch maker’s mark but some kind of a registration/identification lozenge (diamond) with perhaps the letter R(up side down) and 925 to indicate sterling standard. Perhaps German and made for export.

Properly hallmarked British versions of this 'Georgian' design jockey cap caddy spoon are still being made, and have seen them with marks from the late 18th century on - suspect yours is a fairly recent reproduction and the mark is probably a manufacturer's trademark (not British)...
