It`s Italy, Milano, the number being rather high, though. Trev has listed almost every Italian silversmith - this one must be here, too(if you search carefully).

Thank you so much for your help!
I couldn't find 977MI but at least it helped me to identify the country and period.

The mark 977 MI is registered as Casieri Giovanni Milano Via Bolzano 29
Date of assignement of the mark 30.05.1974 and ceased in 1995 (no longer had the mark). However, the company still exists at the same address as a supplier of materials for jewelers and watchmakers.
Immediately evident that, despite having been assigned the mark in 1974, the punching is still done with old like marks and the “800” is without oval. The transition from the old to the new type marks required by law 01.30.1968 has taken several years to come into real effect. A jeweler in my town told me that, as far as recalls, new punches have not begun to be delivered before 1973.

Hi,
Trev has listed almost every Italian silversmith
There's still a long, long way to go yet, but thanks to AG2012's original pointer, Amena's information, and Moshon22's excellent images, Giovanni Casieri's details have now been added.

See: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... 444#p86444

Thanks to all that contributed to the topic.

Trev.
