Small silver shot cups, help needed with marks.

Post by niceguy1 »

HELLO

I have this set of 4 small silver cups, 3 of them are marked with a crown over a tower? then it says D. or E. perez, and vigo. there is also part of another mark.

2 are the same size & the 2 others are each smaller than the other. strangely one bears no markings at all.

Would anybody know what these stand for?

Thanks for looking.

He revisado mi bibliografía y he encontrado esto:

Hello niceguy1, the marks of their vessels are very interesting indeed may be of Spanish but do not rule out that they are Portuguese and see why.
About the brand:
PEREZ The name is very common in Spain and it becomes very difficult to locate because there are many silversmiths of that name all over the country.
Vigo is a city in the province of Pontevedra (Galicia), northwest of Spain and is within the Diocese of Tui and a mere 30 km. of Portugal.
The Coronado Castillo is not a Spanish name brand.
I checked my references and I found this:
In Tui, there is a Diocesan Museum and it remains a chalice with markings very similar to yours, please find attached a photo.
According to the inscription on the base of the chalice, belonged to a inclusa of Tui Tui city's border with Portugal separated by the River Minho and the part of Portugal, there is a defense (castle) in the city of Valença
My hypothesis on the Castle brand is crowned Portuguese influence that is not a few of their brands are very similar crowned with crowns and what the author of the book from where I got the photo is interpreted as a boat leaves may well be lauded as marks in Porto and the castle will be the reference to the defense of Valença.
