Silver fish server? need help with markings

Post by niceguy1 »

HI

This interesting silver fish server? has a hallmark of a head facing right one one handle which is repeated on the other handle & another mark with some letters which i think say L & B.? & a crown over them, the tongs are interesting as they almost look like claws.

Measures 6 1/2 Inches long.

Any idea on this? sorry the marks are a bit hard to photograph.

THANKS

Hello,
The object : a sugar tong.
The woman's head facing right is the guarantee mark for silver fineness. In this case with the figure 1 in front of the woman's head, means a silver fineness of .950.
The other mark LB is the maker's mark of the silversmith Louis Benoit, who was active at 26 & 32 rue Beaubourg Paris during the period 1828-1858.
Symbol : a holy Spirit with a crown in his beak.
