To Whom It May Concern,
Concerning William james Dingley.
My 5th G Grandfather Thomas Webb was a Birmingham Toy / Watch Chain maker( 1728 - 1795). He married an Esther Dingley ( - 1758 ) and had 3 children. Thomas remarried 1760. It is probably a coincidence but W J Dingley as noted was in the 'trade' albeit many years after Thomas died. I have no further information concerning Esther, and was hoping someone may be able to link these two people. Does anyone know who W J Dingleys' parents were ? Any information welcome.
BTW, the Robert Wrightson, of Wrightson's Triennial Directory, was my 4th G Grandfather.
Regards,
Paul

Re: William james Dingley
In the 1861 census William J Dingley aged 3 was living with his parents, Alfred Dingley 38 and Elizabeth Dingley 36, at 172 Spring Hill, Birmingham. Alfred's occupation is Fitter [not sure about this], Grocer & Provision Dealer. They are at the same address in 1871; Alfred is just "Grocer" and William James (at the age of 13) is a "Jeweller".
The IGI records the baptism of an Alfred Dingley [no proof it is the same one] at St Philip, Birmingham on 29 September 1825, birth 28 October 1822, parents John & Hannah Dingley.

Hello Paul
Welcome to the Forum.
The 1841 UK Census listed Alfred Dingley aged 15 years born in Birmingham and living with his parents John and Hannah at 21 Tenby Street, Birmingham. Subsequent Census entries refine Alfred's birth year to 1822-3.
The 1841 Census shows John Dingley as a button maker born in Birmingham around 1787.
Family Search website lists a christening of a John Dingley, the son of John and Hannah, at St Philip's, Birmingham in 1787.
No reliable christening record for the earlier John has been traced but at least this and Phil's information moves the research closer to Esther's time.
Best wishes for your further research.
Mike
