Help with Unidentified Mark

Post by moonsinleo »

Hello! I have a set of three pieces -- spoon, knife, fork -- which are somewhat large. The spoon is 7 long, for example.

The hallmark has three letters on the top line, then a picture of what looks to be a bear on all fours, and then three more letters underneath the bear.

The top line appears to bear the letters BAG. The bottom line appears to read ASK but the K might be an X.

I am attaching pictures of the mark and also a picture of the entire set as it is packaged.

As I am in the USA I am assuming these are American marks; however, I am not positive.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I've a strong feeling that I'm going to disappoint you.

The maker of your set was Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik. As you can see, mark No.557 was Alpacca (see: http://www.925-1000.com/silverglossary.html)

I appreciate your help. So it's German and doesn't contain any silver. Very interesting.

I'm not disappointed -- just happy to have this mystery cleared up!

Thank you!
